East Williamston were away for tonight’s South Pembs Friendly League match against St Johns.
Playing on two mats, up first was Phill P playing Singles. The home side struck first with 2 on the first and 3 on the second. On the third end Phill did some lovely drawing shots but the home side knocked them aside to take 1. Phill persisted and was rewarded with 2 on the fourth end and was holding on the fifth only to have St Johns pinch 1 again. Phill took 2 on the sixth end but with another 1, on the last end, to St Johns they took the win. Kym and Fran played Pairs and, again, St Johns struck first with 1 on the first end. East Williamston drew in nicely to take 1 on the second and 1 on the third. East Williamston were holding on the fourth but St Johns nudged in to take 1. On the fifth end it was St Johns who were holding but this time it was East Williamston's skip who nudged in to pinch 1. St Johns took 1 on the sixth to make the scores level going into the final end. On the last end East Williamston were holding two and looked to be heading for the win but the final shot, by the St Johns skip, wicked in to take one shot and the win. Paula, Theresa, and Sharon played Triples and got off to a nervy start with St Johns taking 1 on the first and 4 on the second. However East Williamston regrouped, taking 3 on the third, 1 on the fourth and 1 on the fifth. On the sixth end St Johns had ditched the jack and were holding with two live bowls but, a great shot by the visiting skip, wicked in and landed inside the two holding bowls to pinch 1. Going into the final end East Williamston were leading by just 1 shot and had the jack surrounded, but the St Johns skip bowled a weighted shot, taking the jack to the back line and their waiting two bowls. It looked as though they had pinched it, however another cracking (some would say spawny, but she says skill) shot again landed her bowl inside the St Johns bowls to pinch the shot and take the win. Dai, Steve, John and Cliff played Rinks and started well with 2 on the first end. However St Johns took a very painful 7 on the second and East Williamston knew they had their work cut out pulling the scores back. But, pull it back they did. They played some great drawing shots, taking 1 on the third, 2 on the fourth and 2 on the fifth, to level the scores. But East Williamston had not finished, taking another 2 on the sixth and 1 on the final end to take the win and the best comeback game ever! Some excellent close games, on tricky mats, but the team stuck with it to master the mats and to come away with some valuable points. Overall Result. : Tied Game 5 - 5 on Points and 24 - 24 on shots Singles Lost 4 - 8 (0 Points) Pairs Lost 3 - 4 (0 Points) Triples Won 7 - 5 (2 Points) Rinks Won 10 - 7 (2 Points) Aggregate shots 24 - 24 (1 Point)
