East Williamston entered two teams into the South Pembs Alec & Brenda Triples Tournament held, today, at Heatherton.
The teams were Sharon, Mandy & Fran and Theresa, Mark and Phill P who competed against eleven other teams, split across three groups. Fran’s team successfully won all games in the round robin stages to top the group with Phill’s team also topping the group having won all except one game. Into the quarter finals Fran’s team found themselves behind, against Cosheston, but a tremendous last bowl ditched the jack to give Fran’s team 3 shots and the win to beat Cosheston and to progress through to face Hundleton in the semi final. Fran’s team were drawing well to beat Hundleton 7-4. Phill’s team beat Reynalton to face Kilgetty in the semi final. It was a nervous game for Theresa, Mark and Phill having lost to Kilgetty in the round robin stages earlier in the day and finding themselves behind with just 2 ends remaining. However some calm bowling pinched the ends to take the win 6-3, to progress to the finals. The final was an all East Williamston affair. Phill’s team were better drawing to the jack and despite a few well placed disruptions it was Theresa, Mark and Phill who took the win, the trophy (and the bragging rights)! It was a superb performance, by both teams, against some strong opposition. Well done all!

East Williamston tried to sneak in for the steal but it wasn’t to be and with 2 to Lamphey they took a 1 shot win. The final game was the Rinks with Paula, Gwyneth, Cliff and Phill P. Lamphey landed 2 on the first end with East Williamston pulling 1 back on the second and, as with the Triples, the gameplay was very close with one team holding and the other team sneaking in to pinch it and, as such, the scores yo-yo’d with 1 to Lamphey on the third, 1 to East Williamston on the fourth and 1 to Lamphey on the fifth to put them into the lead. However a solid drawing performance secured 3, on the sixth end, for the home team which nudged them into the lead. Yet again it was all down to the last end.
