Gwyneth, Kym, Mandy and Fran played Rinks and got off to a good start with 1 on the first. The second end was a team effort with Gwyneth landing on the jack. Still Letterston were holding, until Fran bowled a nicely weighted shot which clipped the Letterston bowl off to give the home side 1 and the win. Mark started off the evening in the Singles and got off to a good start, winning 2 on the first end. The final end was going to be a nail biter but the home side got 2 and secured the win. Up next were Sharon and Fran in the Pairs who also set off well, winning 2 on the first end. However they really struggled with the mat and getting to the jack and Kilgetty took advantage, winning the next four ends with 10 shots. The visitors managed to pull 1 back on the sixth and another on the last end, but the gap was too wide to close. Paula, Cliff and Mandy played Triples. Kilgetty levelled things with another 2 on the fourth but East Williamston took the next three ends with a further 3 shots and took the first win of the evening. Last up were Steve, Kym, Theresa and Phill in the Rinks. Steve’s first bowl landed nicely on the jack and with nobody able to move it the visitors had their first end. The second end again saw Steve pulling in to the jack and one behind, closely followed by Kym’s bowls and the visitors had 4. Every now and again the mat played its tricks and bowls did not land where they were intended but going into the third end East Williamston had a 4 shot lead. The home side pulled 1 back on the third but the fourth went to East Williamston. On the fifth end East Williamston were holding with Kym’s bowl touching the jack but a heavy bowl rolled a Kilgetty bowl in, which also rested on the jack and with neither side able to disrupt either bowl the end was tied. The final two ends went to Kilgetty but the 4 scored by East Williamston in the second had given the visitors the gap needed to stop Kilgetty catching up. East Williamston took the win but the 1 shot won by Kilgetty on the last end gave them a 1 shot advantage on the night and the 2 points for most shots. With the jack surrounded they took 4 on the first end, 4 on the second and 3 on the third. The Kilgetty players were struggling to get to grips with the mat but managed to get one near to the jack, on the fourth, cutting the home side down from 3 to 1. East Williamston just continued drawing in and surrounding the jack which generated great results, with another 4 on the fifth and 5 on the sixth. On the final end Kilgetty were holding but with Frans final shot she just crept her bowl inside the Kilgetty bowl to take 1 and the pair took a significant win. Up next was Mark, playing Singles. Another drawing game saw Mark take 2 on the first, 1 on the second and 2 on the third. With a 4 shot lead East Williamston knew they needed to be first to the jack, which they were and pulling together as a team secured another 3 and the win. The final game of the night was Paula, Kym, Cliff and Phill P in the Rinks. Getting off to a solid start East Williamston took 3 on the first and 1 on the second. Paula did a lovely bowl to the jack, on the third, closely followed by Kym to take 2. Kilgetty were holding on the fifth but Paula landed her bowl directly onto the visitors bowl, to take another 1. Paula was playing some lovely bowls to the jack and with Phill successfully placing a blocker it was another 2 to the home side on the sixth. With a 10 shot lead the visitors were unable to win but that didn’t make the last end any less interesting. Paula drew to the jack, followed by Kym. The visitors got into the mix but with his last bowl Phill clipped the jack to the back of the mat where another 4 East Williamston bowls were waiting, securing 5 and another solid win. Tonights home match was against The Meads in the Pembs Main League and with the visitors fielding Welsh Intl players in each of the games East Williamston knew they had their work cut out.
Playing Singles was Mark who started well taking 1 on the first and 2 on the second. However, The Meads played with strength, often ditching the jack, and taking the next four ends with 5 shots. Mark pulled back 1 on the seventh and with another 1 on the eighth the scores were tied. The Meads surrounded the jack on the ninth and took 3, followed by 1 on the tenth. With dogged determination Mark came back taking another 1 on the eleventh and with the gap being just 3 shots it was going to be an important final end. Mark had his bowls around the back of the jack and The Meads were holding, but with their last shot they clipped the jack which neatly popped back and nestled into Marks awaiting pack of bowls. Taking 4 it gave Mark a 1 shot advantage and the win. Sharon and Fran played Pairs and with both players drawing nicely to the jack, they took 2 on the first and 2 on the second. The Meads then took 1 on the third and 1 on the fourth. The Meads were holding on the fifth but Fran did a nicely weighted shot which pinged the visitors bowl away from the jack and hers stopped on it to take 1. The Meads surrounded the jack on the sixth to take 4 and for the first time in the game were 1 shot ahead. However East Williamston refocused, taking 2 on the seventh and 1 on the eighth. On the ninth Sharon did two lovely bowls to the jack and despite their best efforts The Meads couldn’t get near. Fran then just drew her two in and the home side took all 4. 1 more to The Meads on the tenth and with 1 to East Williamston on the eleventh, and a 6 shot lead, the home side knew that the visitors could not catch them. 2 went to The Meads on the last end but the gap proved too wide and the win went to the home side. Brenda, Cliff and Phill E played Triples. The first end went to the visitors with 1 shot and on the second end they were holding with 2, however a great strike by Phill removed all of the visitors bowls and gave East Williamston 3. Brenda was drawing nicely to the jack, to help secure another 2 on the third. On the fourth The Meads were again holding at the back of the mat, but with his final bowl Phill took a lovely wick which knocked The Meads bowls into the ditch and his bowl nestled nicely onto the jack, to take another 2. A strong strike, on the fifth, knocked the home bowls away and gave The Meads 3. On the sixth Cliff did a wonderful shot which curled into the jack, followed by a draw from Phill and another 2 to the home side. On the eighth end Brenda did another lovely draw into the jack, which the visitors couldn’t disrupt, giving another 1 to East Williamston and a 5 shot lead. The Meads turned up the heat as the game was getting away from them and they successfully took 1 on the eighth and 2 on the ninth. With the lead now narrowed to 3 the last end was a crucial one. Brenda did another 2 great shots onto the jack but a fired shot by The Meads scattered both bowls and the jack and killed the end. On the restart Brenda got another bowl to the jack but the Meads knocked the jack away, to the back corner and landed another 2 bowls nearby. With The Meads holding 3 East Williamston needed to try and disrupt things. Unfortunately a couple of weighted shots missed and then The Meads drew in a fourth. Without another East Williamston bowl getting to the jack, the visitors took 4 and a narrow win. Steve, Theresa, Phill E and Mandy played Rinks. Theresa drew in nicely to the jack to take 1 on the first and The Meads were holding on the second but a great strike by Mandy pinged the jack back to Steves perfectly placed back bowl and another 1 to the home side. On the third end Steve drew nicely to the jack, but The Meads crept passed his bowl to take 1. The Meads then piled on the pressure, successfully surrounding the jack. Phill did a couple of weighted shots to try and break up the pack but The Meads just kept coming back at them and, despite their best efforts, East Williamston couldn’t get the winning shots, with The Meads taking 3 on the fourth, 4 on the fifth and 4 on the sixth. The seventh end was looking hopeful for East Williamston as Steve drew to the jack, closely followed by Theresa who stopped on the inside of a Meads bowl. Phill then placed one in front and Mandy one behind but, somehow, the Meads managed to sneak through them all to take 1. The last couple of ends were again action packed as everyone was jostling to get nearest to the jack but The Meads were successful and took 1 on the eighth and 1 on the ninth to take the win. New Hedges took 1 back on the third but Mark followed it up with 2 on the fourth. Mark was sat on the jack on the fifth but the visitor lined up a great shot onto Marks bowl which moved to the back, leaving the New Hedges bowl sat on the jack. Mark then replicated the shot and the jack sprang towards Marks awaiting back bowl. However New Hedges weren’t done and did another shot which took the jack back to the ditch and gave them the end. Mark took a further 2 on the sixth and closed off the final end, surrounding the jack to take 4 and the win. Mandy and Fran, in the Pairs, took an early lead with 1 on the first. They both drew in nicely to take 3 on the second but the visitors were better gauging the speed and swing and took 2 on the third. Going into the final end the home side only had a 3 shot lead. New Hedges took 1 but it wasn’t enough to close the gap. Paula, Theresa and Sharon played Triples. The visitors took 1 on the first end, however a brilliant team performance by East Williamston, surrounding the jack, gave the home side 5 on the second. New Hedges pulled 1 back on the third but East Williamston were now improving at getting to the jack and successfully took the next four ends with a further 5 shots to secure the win. Fran, Gwyneth, Cliff and Phill P played Rinks and a great opener to the game was them taking 4 on the first end, followed by 1 on the second. East Williamston worked well as a team and successfully surrounded the jack, which made it very difficult for the visitors to disrupt things. This tactic secured a further 5 on the third end, 1 on the fourth and 2 on the fifth. East Williamston were holding on the sixth but an absolute beauty of a shot, by the New Hedges skip, gently curled inside East Williamston’s holding bowl to take the end. On the final end East Williamston again had the jack surrounded with just one New Hedges bowl in the mix. Our final bowl needed to just draw in, but sent with a bit of pace it pinged the jack off the mat. With New Hedges unable to close the gap they asked that the end be declared dead as they could not beat our score even if all of their bowls had been holding. Overall Result : Win to East Williamston 10 - 0 on Points, 44 - 10 on Shots Singles Win 14 - 2 Pairs Win 7 - 5 Triples Win 10 - 2 Rinks Win 13 - 1 |
