East Williamston’s second home match of the week was the South Pembs Friendly League fixture against Lamphey.
Playing on one mat, up first was Mark in the Singles. Mark took 3 on the first end but an excellent bowl, by Lamphey, pinched 1 back on the second. Mark was playing a good drawing game, taking 4 on the third, 1 on the fourth, 3 on the fifth and 3 on the sixth. Going into the last end Lamphey took 2 but it wasn’t enough to close the gap and Mark took the win. Mandy & Fran played Pairs and made a strong start with 4 on the first end but a wayward shot on the second sent the jack into the Lamphey pack, giving them 4. East Williamston took 2 on the third with another 1 to Lamphey on the fourth. A couple of nice draw shots, by the home side, secured another 2, on the fifth, to nudge into a 3 shot lead. But Lamphey knocked East Williamston off the jack to take 2 back on the sixth. Going into the last end East Williamston were leading by a very slender 1 shot but Lamphey were holding 2. However with the last bowl the East Williamston skip fired into the two holding bowls and moved the jack to take 1 and the win. Kym, Theresa and Sharon played Triples and this time it was the visitors who struck first, with 1 on the first and 1 on the second. However East Williamston pulled 2 back on the third to level the scores. The next three ends were a real game of cat and mouse with each team pinching shots from the holding team, with 1 to Lamphey on the fourth and 1 on the fifth and 1 on the sixth to East Williamston. Going into the final end East Williamston led by 1 shot and the team drew nicely into the jack, to hold 2, but Lamphey kept on coming and successfully moved the jack and added two to the pile. East Williamston tried to sneak in for the steal but it wasn’t to be and with 2 to Lamphey they took a 1 shot win. The final game was the Rinks with Paula, Gwyneth, Cliff and Phill P. Lamphey landed 2 on the first end with East Williamston pulling 1 back on the second and, as with the Triples, the gameplay was very close with one team holding and the other team sneaking in to pinch it and, as such, the scores yo-yo’d with 1 to Lamphey on the third, 1 to East Williamston on the fourth and 1 to Lamphey on the fifth to put them into the lead. However a solid drawing performance secured 3, on the sixth end, for the home team which nudged them into the lead. Yet again it was all down to the last end. Lamphey were holding, then East Williamston pinched it back but Lamphey’s skip had the final bowl and he wicked in to pinch the jack and take 1 which tied the scores and the game. Some very competitive games and East Williamston had to work hard for tonight’s points.
