East Williamston were at home for tonights South Pembs Friendly league match against Kilgetty.
Playing on one mat, Kilgetty had requested that, as they had players arriving late, the Pairs be played first. So it was Sharon and Fran who started the evening and the pair got off to a great start, with both players doing some lovely draw shots to the jack. With the jack surrounded they took 4 on the first end, 4 on the second and 3 on the third. The Kilgetty players were struggling to get to grips with the mat but managed to get one near to the jack, on the fourth, cutting the home side down from 3 to 1. East Williamston just continued drawing in and surrounding the jack which generated great results, with another 4 on the fifth and 5 on the sixth. On the final end Kilgetty were holding but with Frans final shot she just crept her bowl inside the Kilgetty bowl to take 1 and the pair took a significant win. Up next was Mark, playing Singles. Another drawing game saw Mark take 2 on the first, 1 on the second and 2 on the third. The Kilgetty player was trying to disrupt things but Mark just kept his focus which gave him a further 2 on the fourth, 3 on the fifth, 3 on the sixth and 1 on the last end to seal the win. Gwyneth, Theresa and Mandy played Triples. Gwyneth did a lovely draw to the jack but an overweight bowl knocked it off and Kilgetty took 1 on the first. East Williamston pulled it back on the second as Mandy sent a lovely bowl which rolled in and secured 4. The third end went the same as the first with Gwyneth’s holding bowl being knocked off the jack by an overweight shot and Kilgetty taking 1. Kilgetty were getting the measure of the mat and took 1 on the fourth and another 1 on the fifth. On the sixth end Gwyneth again landed another bowl on the jack, which Kilgetty managed to knock off and were holding with 1 until Theresa sent down a great weighted shot which took the jack back to the ditch and the awaiting East Williamston pack, and 4 on the scoreboard. With a 4 shot lead East Williamston knew they needed to be first to the jack, which they were and pulling together as a team secured another 3 and the win. The final game of the night was Paula, Kym, Cliff and Phill P in the Rinks. Getting off to a solid start East Williamston took 3 on the first and 1 on the second. Paula did a lovely bowl to the jack, on the third, closely followed by Kym to take 2. On the fourth end Kym clipped the jack into the ditch but her bowl decided not to follow it and Kilgetty were holding. However Cliff did an absolutely perfectly weighted bowl which slipped inside the Kilgetty bowl to hold and take 1. Kilgetty were holding on the fifth but Paula landed her bowl directly onto the visitors bowl, to take another 1. Paula was playing some lovely bowls to the jack and with Phill successfully placing a blocker it was another 2 to the home side on the sixth. With a 10 shot lead the visitors were unable to win but that didn’t make the last end any less interesting. Paula drew to the jack, followed by Kym. The visitors got into the mix but with his last bowl Phill clipped the jack to the back of the mat where another 4 East Williamston bowls were waiting, securing 5 and another solid win.
